The Gross Point Lighthouse, located just north of Chicago in the suburb of Evanston, Illinois. Construction was completed in 1873 and the lighthouse was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1976 and in 1999, the lighthouse was also designated a National Historic Landmark. After being reactivated in 1945 the light remains in service to the present time. Its lens or beacon is a Fresnel lens with a rated Intensity of 68,000 candlepower.
