Built in 1784 during the Ottoman era,Khan el-Umdan, the "Caravanserai of the Pillars", reuses 40 massive columns of granite taken from the ruins of archaeological sites like Caesarea, Atlit and other Crusader monuments.Located near the port, Khan al-Umdan was an important trading spot : a warehouse for merchants arriving at Acre while caravans brought grain from the villages of Galillee.Acre, a Unesco World heritage site.
