The Wachau is a region in the Lower Austria along the Danube river well-known for its wine growing area. Its beautiful landscape includes vineyards, many of which are built on terraces overlooking the Danube, villages, abbeys, and small towns rich in history, footpaths and cycle paths for discover the nature. It is about 40 kilometers (25 mi) in length and is located midway between the towns of Melk and Krems. It is inscribed in the UNESCO List of World Heritage Sites since December 2000.
