Epiphany Celebrated In Ethiopia

Timket is a 3 day celebration of the baptism of Jesus Christ celebrated throughout Ethiopia but with special significance in the city of Gonder. The first day is marked by processions of 7 Tabots (models of the Ark of the Covenant) from various churches in the city to a large pool called Fasilides Bath. On the second day, usually the 19th day of January the waters of the pool are blessed and hundreds of people, the devout and tourist alike wash themselves in the blessed waters of the pool.
