Organizations On High Alert For Child Trafficking In Wake Of Nepal Earthquake

KATHMANDU, NEPAL - MAY 14: At Thankot Checkpoint on the way out of the Kathmandu valley, Sanumaya B K 30 years and Kalpana Magar 32 years from the organization Mati Nepal, monitor the buses and mini-van the leaving the valley in search for girls and women who may be victims of trafficking or are in the high risk zone to become victims to the infamous trade, on May 14, 2015 in Kathmandu, Nepal. After the devastating magnitude 7.8 earthquake of April 25, entire villages were destroyed and hundreds of thousands of people were made homeless and children orphaned. Some of these remote areas have long been targeted by human-traffickers seeking young women and girls and the current situation has significantly increased the risk to women and children.
