Community Wedding Held For Santa Marta Favela Residents In Rio

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL - DECEMBER 17: Attendees pray during a community wedding ceremony of sixteen couples from the Santa Marta 'favela', or community, on December 17, 2014 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The wedding was organized by the Police Pacification Unit (UPP) from the Santa Marta community, also known as Dona Marta. Volunteers prepared makeup, hair styling and loaned dresses in an effort to build goodwill between 'favela' residents and the community's police force. The wedding ceremony was held in the main hall at the posh Fluminese Football Club. The 'pacified' favela is marking six years since it became the first favela in Rio to receive pacification forces.
