Dr William Beebe Giving Instructions to Crew

(Original Caption) Dr. William Beebe, (center), giving last minute instructions to his assistants, Miss Gloria Hollister, (left), and John Teevan, (Right), before Beebe, descended more than a half mile beneath the surface of the Atlantic Ocean, off Nonsuch Island in the Bermuda Group. on August 15th. Much was obtained, although the stay was cut to only five minutes, because of the time required to lower and raise the bathysphere. Although the steel ball was beneath the water for 2 hours, and 46 minutes, 2 hours and 41 minutes of that time was used in sending it down and bringing it back up.
