Danish Railways Ready with Great Belt Border Control to Sweden for January 4th

Kastrup, Denmark, December 28th, 2015. The new border control between Denmark and Sweden will be very expensive, says Tony Bispeskov, Information Manager at DSB (Danish Railways): "It may cost around 1 million Danish kroner per day" he says to this reporter. The control of travel documents will take place at Kastrup Airport's railway station, the last stop before crossing the Great Belt to Sweden. The actual checking will be carried out by a private contractor, Securitas. The control is a consequence of Swedish border control measures to be in effect from January 4th. Travellers without proper travel documents will be returned to Denmark and the carrier will be fined 50.000 kroner per returned passenger. (Photo by Ole Jensen/Corbis via Getty Images)
