A Maldivian couple walk past an advertising hoarding in Male, 18 August 2007. Polling stations in the Maldives officially closed late 18 August, but election officials said a few booths would remain open to accommodate those in line to cast ballots on a landmark referendum. On the capital island of Male, voters were still queueing up outside the national stadium, and officials said they would only close the boxes once everyone had cast their ballots.
