Italy - Religion - First Woman Ordained Priest

Maria Vittoria attends her priest ordination at All Saints church in Rome. Maria Vittoria Longhitano 35, a married teacher from Sicily living in Milan, is the first woman ordained priest in Italy, in Rome, few steps away from the Vatican. She is member and daecon since last year of the small Catholic order called "The old catholics",who refuse the Papal infallibility and the Immaculate Conception."My ordination represents a great chance for all women of faith. It means hope, it means giving a push to an important debate between Catholics on the issue of denying women the possibility of fulfilling their vocations and being ordained as ministers" she said "hoping to stimulate a debate and break down the "prejudice" within the Catholic Church" (Photo by Alessandra Benedetti/Corbis via Getty Images)
