MORRO BAY - CA - MARCH 10, 2015 - Pacific Coast Peregrine Falcon, a Chumash sacred bird, nesting on Morro Rock, March 10, 2015. Members of the Northern Chumash Tribal Council say Morro Rock is a sacred site and the Salinan Indians should not be allowed to climb it, something the Salinans have done for more than a decade during each winter and summer solstice. Now, the Northern Chumash have filed a civil suit to get the Salinans to stop desecrating the Central Coast landmark. The Salinans say they are practicing rituals handed down by their elders.
