France asked for Europe's help on July 25 in fighting wild fires that have consumed swathes of forest in the southeast of the country. Hundreds of firefighters were battling blazes across southern France, with one inferno spreading across 900 hectares of forest and threatening homes on the island of Corsica, emergency services said.
