L.A based musician/producer Matt A. Thorne was all ears from an early age.
"I was the portrait of a young studio geek.
From the age of about 4, my sister would lift me onto the bench in front of our old Hammond organ. It had 32 draw-bars
to change the timbre of the sound. Instead of banging on the keys like a normal kid, I would lay music books across the
keys and pedals and tweak those draw bars for hours. 8 years later my dad and I were tearing the speakers out of that
thing to build a guitar amp. I was hopeless. I was the youngest of four kids. All of us were into music. You would
hear Modern Jazz Quartet or Stravinsky in one room, "rappers delight" in the kitchen and the Sex Pistols down the hall.

At age 17 some much needed direction came from Jazz great Gary Burton.
" Gary did a clinic for my high school jazz band. He let us jam with him a bit at the end. Afterward ,as we were packing up, he grabbed my arm and said 'you have to keep playing. Anyone can see that you get it. ' His quest for the tone served him well and took him to unexpected places once school days were over. A chance to work at Chick Corea's Mad Hatter Studios in 1988 brought Thorne to Los Angeles. He was lucky enough to be behind the glass for sessions with Corea, Joe Di'orrio, Robben Ford, Steve Lukather, Michael Landau, Vinnie Colaiuta, Jeff Berlin, and Prince. "I think I was speechless for the first 2 months I was there ; just trying to absorb as much as I could. I've had better paying gigs since then but that was the ideal place to start. ."
In 1990 Thorne did a radio edit on Hi-C's "I'm not your puppet". " We used a beta version of Sound Tools wich later became Pro Tools. Since that day, I've been making noise with computers...like everyday."
Thorne has Composed, mixed, edited, performed or programmed on 100's of hours of television , dozens of albums and remixes, 4 or 5 theme park rides , 3 animatronic hip-hop parrots in the Tropicana Las Vegas , and most recently countless toys and CDRom titles. That's right, most days you can find him working in a studio inside toy designer's think tank.
