HYALINE CARTILAGE--CARTILAGE CELLS (CHONDROCYTES), LACUNAE, MATRIX, PERICHONDRIUM, 100X. The Chondrocyctes (Cartilage cells) with nuclei are very evident, along with the Lacunae or cavities that the chondrocytes occupy. The Matrix is the firm intercellular material that is responsible for the supportive function of this tissue. The fibrous connective tissue that comprises the Perichondrium is also present in this image. This light micrograph is of hyaline cartilage found in the Conchae of the nasal cavities. It is also found in the nasal septum. Hyaline cartilage is also found in the articular cartilage of the joints, costal cartilage of the rib cage, and rings of cartilage that supports the trachea.
