FIBROCARTILAGE--CHONDROCYTES (Cartilage Cells), LACUNAE, COLLAGENOUS FIBERS, Intervertebral Disc, 250X. The Chondrocytes with a stained nucleus are quite visible. The space that these cells are in is called a Lacuna. A large number of strong Collagenous Fibers are found outside these cells. Fibrocartilage is a tough, strong tissue like the intervertebral discs located between the vertebrae that act as shock absorbers for the spine. Fibrocartilage is also found in the Menisci (pads of cartilage in the knee), and pubic symphysis.
