Shkin: The Far Outpost Of The Fight Against Terrorism in Afghanistan

SHKIN, AFGHANISTAN - OCTOBER 20: US Army soldiers from the 10th Mountain Division (Watertown, NY) move out from their barracks October 20, 2003 at Shkin, a frontier fire base in Paktika Province, Afghanistan and will now rotate to Kandahar, Afghanistan after a three-month tour. Shkin firebase is the most active frontier post for the US Army inside Afghanistan and has taken the highest number of casualties of any base since the fall of the Taliban regime in November, 2001. Shkin firebase is in the heart of ethnic Pashtun Paktika Province. Southeastern Afghanistan is suffering from a re-emerging Taliban political-military force crossing over from South Waziristan, the Pakistani tribal territory of Northwest Frontier Province (NWFP).
