World Championship Pack Burro Races in Fairplay, Colorado.

FAIRPLAY, CO - JULY 29: Becki Lynn Lassley, of Littleton, and her donkey Lil Turbo begin the 70th annual World Championship Pack Burro Race on July 29, 2018, in Fairplay, Colorado. Each runner must lead his donkey with a 15 foot lead and the donkey must carry 33 pounds in its pack. The runner is allowed to push, pull, drag or carry the burro but is not allowed to ride it. A team is made up of a man or woman and a burro. The winning team must cross the finish line together. The race was made up of two races. The first is a 15 miles race and the second is 29 miles that goes up to the top of Mosquito Pass which tops out at an elevation of 13,185 ft. This race is the first is a Triple Crown burro race in Colorado.The second leg runs in Leadville, August 5th and the third leg is in Buena Vista, August 13. (Photo by Helen H.
