Children of Sarajevo

SARAJEVO, BOSNIA/HERZEGOVINA, BALKANS - 1994: The siege of Sarajevo - capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina - started in 1992 and ended 1996, (1,425 days in all) the longest siege of a capital city in the history of modern warfare killing 13,952 people amongst whom were 5,434 civilians, including innumerable children. In 1994 I spent the winter in the capital, Sarajevo, documenting the daily lives of children, the first victims of war. This series of pictures serves as a testament to the suffering endured while at the same time demonstrating their resilience in adversity.
