Senator Whitehouse defends judicial nomination blue slip process

Rhode Island Senator Sheldon Whitehouse says that if the blue slip tradition ended, a future president could choose to put a New York or Tennessee or Alaska judge into the so-called Rhode Island seat on the First Circuit, the only mechanism preventing that from happening that the blue slip was the only mechanism preventing that from happening, protecting the long tradition of seats on circuit courts of appeal associated with particular home states.
