This line of semi-ruined cottages were contstructed in around 1862, and is known as Village Street. They replaced traditional blackhouses, although there is evidence of continuous settlement on the island since the bronze age. Hirta is the largest island in the island archipelago of St Kilda, which is situated in the North Atlantic ocean 40 miles west north-west of North Uist in the Outer Hebrides of Scotland.
