"USDA Graded" Meats For Sale at Giant

WHEATON, MARYLAND- OCTOBER 06: There's a meat labeling scandal at Ahold, the parent company of Giant, Martin's, Stop 'n Shop, and Pea Pod. Ahold began labeling both USDA Choice and USDA Select meat with a generic USDA Graded label. The USDA forced them to pull the ambiguous label (which tells consumers nothing aside from the fact that the meat was graded). According to the USDA, meat with the USDA Graded label should be flushed out of the system by the middle of this week. There were lots of "USDA Graded" meats still being put on the shelves today at the Wheaton Giant. Many were labeled with "Best Used by Oct. 10th" on the package. (Photo by Michael S.
