UNITED STATES - MAY 22: James Sullivan (left) and Howard Beach, who were riding in the caboose of the 60-car northbound train, talk to News reporter Frank Mazza at scene. Two freight trains operating on a single track and traveling toward each other at a 40 mile-an-hour clip collided in the New York Central's West Side freight yard at 146th Street. Six crewmen were killed and four more injured, two seriously. The crash occured about 10 A.M. and was immediately followed by two explosions that set off a three-alarm fire that took 80 minuted to control.
