India Readies For A Moon-shot Through Chandrayaan-2 Seeks To Land A Moon Rover Near South Pole

BENGALURU, INDIA, JANUARY 05: Mr. Gopalan Nagesh holding a 3D printed replica of the Chandrayaan-2 spacecraft. He is the program director for the Chandrayaan-2 mission at The Indian Space Research Organisation or ISRO is putting finishing touches to India's moon-shot called Chandrayaan-2 or vehicle to the Moon. In an audacious attempt India seeks to land near the South Pole of the moon a never before feat.The spacecraft which includes an orbitter, lander and rover is being readied in a clean room of the ISRO Satellite Center. The UDS150 million mission is likely to be launched in the next few months using India's indigenous rocket the Geo-synchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle or GSLV which will lift off from Sriharikota. This is will be India's second foray to the moon the first was in 2008. Dozens of women and men work on the satellite day and night. The team leader for the project is a woman engineer Mrs M Vanitha.
