(Original Caption) 6/21/1939-New York, NY: Lou Gehrig, "Iron Horse" first baseman of the New York Yankees, who has been ruled off the diamond by physicians of the Mayo Clinic, is shown at Yankee Stadium in the dugout with his teammates. The Mayo medicos found that Gehrig is suffering from a form of infantile paralysis which calls for careful treatment and abstinence from violent exercise. Gehrig voluntarily benched himself from the Yankee lineup this season after he had played a consecutive string of games totaling 2,310 - an all time record.
