Antique photograph of the Lion Monument or Lion of Lucerne, a 19th century rock relief in Lucerne, Switzerland, Bertel Thorvaldsen (design) and Lukas Ahorn. It's a big (10 x 6 metres) tribute to the alomost eight hundred Swiss Guards slaughtered during the French Revolution. It depicts a mortally-wounded lion, impaled by a spear, covering a shield with fleur-de-lis of French monarchy; next to the lion a second shield features the coat of arms of Switzerland. Below the lion the inscription with the date (10 of August, 1792) of the massacre.
