Congressman Arrington questions efficiency claims about federal workforce given technological advances at committee markup

Texas Congressman Jodey Arrington says in an exchange with colleague Tom Suozzi at a House Ways and Means Committee markup of a resolution of inquiry that would request the Trump Administration to provide information to Congress about Social Security Administration operations and Department of Government Efficiency access to the Social Security Administration that he had not looked at the numbers but suggested that having the same amount of federal employees in the 21st century as in the 60s and 70s, when they didn't even have microwave ovens let alone the internet, was not an impressive statistic, arguing they could probably run the government more efficiently post-technology revolution while still needing people to show up, and expressed that he would have an easier time receiving concerns with sincere motives if the same passion and concern were directed to the many government employees who had not been showing up for years post-pandemic. The measure was later ordered adversely reported to the House in a partyline 24-18 vote.
