Clock Tower with Smoke from Sniper

(Original Caption) 8/1/1966-Austin, Texas- Police bullets kick up dust around the clock on the University of Texas tower, as officers return the fire of a sniper who terrorized the University campus with weapons fire for 80 minutes August 1st. The sniper, later identified by Austin police as Charles J. Whitman, 24, was shot and killed by an Austin policeman. During the 80-minute reign of terror on the campus, a number of persons were killed by the sniper's bullets and several others were injured.
