South Korea's Penis Park

SAMCHEOK, SOUTH KOREA - FEBRUARY 23: Phallic statues are displayed in Haesindang Park, informally known as 'Penis Park', on February 23, 2018 in Samcheok, South Korea. Although a number of the current phalluses are made by artists, according to legend a local woman once drowned after being left by a man on a rock at sea while he worked. The villagers were then unable to catch fish, with some some claiming the dead woman had cursed the water. One day afterwards a fisherman urinated into the sea and was then able to catch fish so it was thought that exposing the deceased woman to male genitalia pleased her. To soothe her spirit further, the local village people made phallic wooden carvings and held ceremonies on her behalf. After a while, the fish slowly returned and the villagers lived happily again.
