Thousands flee Iraq's Sinjar

DOHUK, IRAQ - AUGUST 4 : Thousands of Iraqis flee from the town of Sinjar, near the city of Mosul, to Erbil and Dohuk after armed groups affiliated with the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) seized the town early on August 4, 2014. The violence in Iraq has escalated since early June after a coalition of armed insurgent groups led by ISIL -- or the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant which had later changed its name to "Islamic State" -- took control of large swathes of the country's predominantly Sunni provinces.
