NYC Municipal Unions Rally to Save 22,000 JOBS

NEW YORK, NY – SEPTEMBER 03, 2020: Anthony Wells - President of SSEU Local 371. Municipal Labor Unions rally in downtown Manhattan’s Foley Square in light of Mayor Bill de Blasio threatening to lay off 22,000 municipal workers amid the city’s ongoing budget crisis. Amid the COVID-19 pandemic workers, labor leaders, and politicians call on the de Blasio administration to recognize their sacrifices in maintaining the city running during the pandemic. Among the speakers was Henry Garrido, the Executive Director of District Council 37 who said, “Thousands of [city workers] got sick, thousands of them are still sick and they were called heroes… and how do they get rewarded? with 22,000 layoffs.
