Congressman Thompson says Trump tariff policy messaging and impositions incoherent

California Congressman Mike Thompson tells US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer that the administration's messaging lacked coherence when it imposed tariffs on 180 countries including allies like the UK, Ukraine, France, and even an island that only has penguins on it while exempting adversaries like Russia, Belarus, and North Korea, expressed frustration about contradictory justifications that simultaneously claimed tariffs would permanently support domestic manufacturing and raise revenue for tax cuts while also presenting them as temporary negotiating leverage, leaving constituents confused and concerned about what amounted to a six trillion dollar tax on the US economy and $3,800 in higher prices for the average American family at an annual hearing by the House Ways and Means Committee on the Trump Administration's trade agenda.
