Gordon Brown addresses debate at the Fabian Society; Richards asks question about special relationship with the United States SOT / Brown response about relation ship with the USA SOT- There will always be a strong and special relationship with America and that is because we share the same values of liberty and opportunity and freedom for the individual / Equally there will be a strong relationship between any British government and its membership of the European Union so that we have a level of international cooperation, for example in the environment, that is absolutely essential for the future- I sense that what is possible in the next few years is a new multilateralism / People have talked in the last few years about unilateral action here there and everywhere and that has been an issue / But I sense, whether it's over Iran or North Korea that we're moving towards a more multilateral world where people are prepared to join together and to cooperate on common issues- Now, when we talk about the Middle East and we talk about Israel and Palestine, this is to a large extent the source of many of the problems that we have in other parts of the world / If I can help in any way to bring about a solution which is a two state solution with Palestine given its status as a state with Israel given protection and security so that its borders are upheld and recognised by other powers, and one of the ways we're going to do that is by making sure that we can show that the Palestinian people can enjoy economic prosperity in these new arrangements- And what I sense is that Israeli business communities, what I also sense is America and the European Union, are ready to support an economic initiative which would underpin the peace process and the roadmap to peace where we would support small business development, infrastructure development, new industrial parks, which would reduce unemployment in the Palestinian areas which is unacceptable at 50 per cent or more, poverty ...
