Congresswoman Bonamici says cutting environmental safety backbone agency NOAA leaves constituents at a loss for disaster alerts

Oregon Congresswoman Suzanne Bonamici says in House floor remarks that they wanted to explain how the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration contributed to the economy and well-being as the backbone of this nation's environmental safety and resilience, that how when earthquakes inevitably threatened the Pacific Northwest coastline with devastating tsunamis, the first lifesaving alert would come from NOAA's seismologists at the Alaska Earthquake Center who created critical information needed by emergency managers, mariners, and everyday citizens.
