Historic mosque gutted by PKK fire reopens in southeastern Turkey

DIYARBAKIR, TURKEY MARCH 07: The 500-year-old Fatih Pasha Mosque reopens on March 07, 2019 in Diyarbakir’s Sur district, southeastern Turkey. Four years after it was gutted by a fire set by PKK terrorists, the historic mosque reopened for worship on Thursday coincided with the Muslim holy night of Laylat al-Raghaib marking the beginning of three holy months on the Islamic Hijri calendar: Rajab, Sha’ban, and Ramadan. The historic mosque -- also known as the Lead-Covered Mosque -- was built by Biyikli Mehmet Pasha, who was appointed Diyarbakir’s governor in 1516.
